Upper Atiamuri School

1.                  What school do you go to?

Ko Upper Atiamuri te kura. ( Upper Atiamuri School)

2.                  What is something special about your school?

We only have 30 kids in our school. We are a very active school.

Our symbol is a fantail. It is special because it represents being intelligent and inquisitive.

We are a multi-cultural school and we have a trampoline, lots of sports gear, and a gully and lots of space to run around.

We’ve got our very own culture. We have mixed ages and cultures. Everyone is equal no matter what and we wouldn’t change it for anything.

Everyone is nice and caring.

Our school only has 30 children, our cultural diversity, everyone does kapa haka everyone enjoys it no matter what our culture.

We also have flower day, winter sports, Pet day and fun trips.

We have a swimming pool and a tramp. Not many schools have a tramp.
Everyone tries their best.

Sometimes we get to have a puppy in our classroom while we work we also have a   gully to do epic adventures in.

The teachers are awesome!

3.                  What is something you have enjoyed learning about this year?

I’ve enjoyed learning about different places and my past ancestors.

Learning new sports like soccer and rugby.

Learning kapahaka and doing science experiments.

We love art.

We have enjoyed getting the opportunities to learn physics and multiplications to get us a good understanding of the work and it challenges your mind.

The Commonwealth Games. We really enjoyed learning about the values of the games, to help us succeed and have good values in life.

4.                  What do you most like about living in Atiamuri (Rotorua)?

There are lots of dairy farms and sheep farms.

Our community in Atiamuri is so small, everyone knows everyone else. Everyone is nice and supports each other.

I like all the different cultures and all the animals.

We like all the animals and space to play and run around and we don’t have to listen to the trucks race past, we also don’t have street lights shining in our eyes.

It’s nice to go to all the places in Rotorua and living in the country it’s dark and you can see all the stars at night.

I love living on a marae. There are unexpected surprises and opportunities. Like doing a karanga (welcoming call) at a powhiri.

5.         What do you most like doing on your computers/iPads/devices at school to help your learning?

We really like maths games. We learn heaps and it’s fun too!

All I like is that we actually have computers and other technology to me I think we’re very lucky.

The cool educational games. It helps us by researching and finding facts for your learning. We also play games that help our learning and we also use them for publishing our work.

We like to play maths games. We really like going on www.multiplication.com/games

I like the odd games that help you develop skills that you never thought possible.

I like listening to music on devices because it helps me get lost into my work. Also I like singing so it gives me the opportunity to showcase my talents.

6.                  Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself, your learning, your class or your school?

The year 7/8s are currently doing the William Pike Challenge and we do lots of fun things during the year. We have been Rock climbing and bike rides in the forest. We are going Kayaking and are going to spend a night in the bush.

Well I’m not a very intelligent type of girl, but with the teachers and the class environment it helps me to focus and achieve my goals! (Mrs Needham thinks she is intelligent!)

Well I like how we get to learn other peoples cultures and get to learn to speak their language to  me this  school is like home to me  and I bet you would want to come to our school.

We are from MOKOIA INTERMEDIATE!  We are a year 7 digital class and we love to have fun and work together.  We are a class that believes strongly in our school values of Honesty, Relationships, Respect and Learning.  We love being in P2!

Here are our answers to the questions:

This year we have enjoyed heaps of things such as, Minecraft, storys, playing with each other, school trips, Inquiry, making new friends, making the Typhoon Bothers in term 2, Speeches and our Teachers.  We are a very good and small school.

This year the teachers have been awesome and the learning is so much fun. We also get alot of opportunities including sports, performing arts, technology and much more.  We al follow values that make a great class and school.

In Rotorua I like going to the skyine gondola because of the luge ride and the Jelly Belly shop.
I like the nice clean lakes around Rotorua because they have the tastiest trout.
I like the Redwoods and biking areas in Rotorua because it's a peaceful place to spend the weekends.  I like Te Puia Geothermal Park because of a the gysers and hot water pools.  It was a great experience for me.
I like the beautiful flowers in the city and the Maori Culture is alive here.  I also love how clean Rotorua is.

Mokoia is special because it is a nice small school and we all know each other.  We have a variety of activities for morning tea and lunchtimes.  We have awesome opportunities like the Devon exchange, Arts options on Friday, Technology, Digital Classes and Alternative education week.  We have a Bike track in our school!  We get to go fishing and kayaking at camp and we have awesome teachers!

As we are a digital class we love to use our computers for learning.  We use all sorts of different websites and devices to create the learning environment we need.  Readum is an online reading site where we read through the computer screen.  We use Google docs as it is a way we can all write at the same time with different computers.  Using Storybird is a way for us to create stories from peoples art.  We do so much more and we hope you have as much fun as we do!

Tui Ridge Senior Camp 2014 on PhotoPeach

We are Seniors and have Responsibilities

Ambassadors

In order to become an ambassador, you need to be nominated and have and interview. We (Julie and Millie) were selected as having 'the right stuff' and got to go on a leadership development programme and attend the National Young Leaders day.

As Ambassadors we are involved in meeting and greeting visitors, helping with junior and middle school classes, assisting in the playground at break times, and representing our school.

Dynamos

Dynomos are senior students who are selected and trained to organise and run lunch time games for the junior and middle school students. Ryan is a Dynamo, this suits his bouncy personality.

Librarians

Alexa, Julie and Millie are Librarians. They are responsible for issuing and returning books, and filing books onto the shelves.

Road Patroller

Ryan helps keep kids safe by being out at the zebra crossing in the rain and the sun and the frost and the wind. "Signs out!, Wait Please! Check! Safe! Cross now please! Signs in!" Says Ryan.

Receptionists

Alexa and Ryan are Receoptionists. They get a welcome desk at the reception office of the school and are responsible for meeting and greeting visitors, answering the phone and taking messages. They also help the office staff with anything they need.

ICT Leaders

We are ICT Leaders at Malfroy School. This is what we enjoy the most!

The best part of being an ICT Leader this year is that we established our own 'real' business: The Malfroy Market. You can view our business ventures here

We have our own school blog where our teacher (she calls herself a 'facilitator' though) leaves instructions for us and where we showcase our learning outcomes. You can view this blog here.

One of the coolest things about an ICT Leader is that we get to explore many different Web 2.0 Tools and Apps that encourage us to think, collaborate, create and connect. It is AWESOME!

And, we earn badges for our successes. Check them out!

Web 2.0 Badges on PhotoPeach

Below are some outcomes we want to share with you.

A quick review by Moenah, Adele and Jordan....

Our school is Mokoia Intermediate.

Mokoia has got a lot of different opportunities for different people in the school such as: Sport (a lot of sport), Stage Challenge, Production, Kapa Haka, Student Council, House Captain, Camp (basic and flash), Inter-House Competitions, Maths Competitions, Band Competitions, Tough Guy/Girl Challenge and a whole lot more.

One of our favorite things in class was doing a novel study on the book Divergent with fun and interesting activities to understand the book better. Also our pathbrite (digital portfolio).
Making and firing our catapults for science, having an awesome teacher, Social studies, experimenting with our green screen, blogging, seeing Aida (production by RGHS and RBHS), our speeches and so much more.

We like Rotorua because of the clean air, the free space and we have some really nice locals.

We find Google Docs really cool. You can make your own presentation/ spreadsheet/ document/ drawing/ form and you can share it with friends, family, classmates or even your teacher.

Mokoia is a small school which is really cool because you know everyone by face or name.
